More financial trouble on the way for Las Vegas and Nevada. Las Vegas all but announced cancellation of the downtown Fremont New Year’s Eve fireworks celebration.

LAS VEGAS NFR 2021
The National Finals Rodeo began Thursday, December 3,  at the Fort Worth Convention Center , the first time since 1985, it isn’t staged at the Thomas & Mack Center. The reason: COVID-19. The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is part of Las Vegas and a long-standing fixture for our visitors and locals.
Rodeo officials say the rodeo and affiliated events produce a $200 million economic impact for Las Vegas every year.    Las Vegas Events was able to add a year to its contract with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association to keep NFR in Las Vegas through at least 2025. So Las Vegas can expect a return of the NFR in 2021
Nevada has been cheated out of more than $100 million in hotel room tax revenue in recent years by a host of online travel companies, according to a 11-page civil complaint filed in Clark County District Court.

What travel companies were doing is purchasing hotel rooms on a wholesale basis for a certain price, $150 a night, but then selling the room at a higher rate, say $175.. Instead of reporting the price the room was sold for, $175., the companies have been reporting the original purchase price of $150. This lost revenue when recovered could help replace some of the lost revenue caused by  COVID-19.
This was bit of good news while Nevada was experiencing, Thursday, December 3, the single deadliest day, 48 people died, making this the deadliest week of the COVID-19 pandemic for Nevada.
